Kids’ Club at Cleveland Elementary

Welcome to the Cleveland community! Unfortunately, Kids’ Club will not be operating at Cleveland next year. There will be a new onsite afterschool program through Oaklandleaf run by Jake Tane. That is all the information available at this time.

Program Overview

Kids’ Club at Cleveland Elementary is a school-based afterschool program that is an extension of the formal school day. The program serves to complement and enhance learning in the classroom through educational, physical, artistic, and social experiences in a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere. With a small student to teacher ratio (14:1) Kids’ Club at Cleveland Elementary provides children the opportunity to expand their learning through specialty classes, develop meaningful relationships with their teachers, and build community with their peers. The program includes outside play and plenty of downtime to unwind and have fun.

Enrichment Classes

Kids’ Club at Cleveland Elementary has a roster of fun rotating classes for all age groups. Our afterschool teaching staff develops curriculum based on their interests, passions, and in response to the hobbies of our students. Specialty classes will range from topics like art, science, sports, and much more.

What does a typical day look like?
Kids' Club Cleveland begins each day at the last school bell and ends at 5pm or 6pm. Dedicated staff assist students in pods of 14 with homework, facilitate activities, and oversee snack and outdoor play.

What are your COVID safety procedures?
The JCC East Bay makes every effort to maintain social distancing and we work with our students to understand personal space and boundaries. We conduct daily health screens and take temperatures when the students arrive. We limit intermingling between groups to emphasize social distancing and minimize exposures. In compliance with CDC and local safety recommendations, all people over the age of 2 are required to wear a face covering, except while eating or drinking. Groups are assigned to communal play areas on a rotating basis. All high contact areas, equipment, and toys are cleaned before, during, and after usage by staff and JCC East Bay janitorial staff. In the event of a presumed positive COVID-19 case, a deep-clean will be performed. Janitorial services are provided by the school and Kids' Club staff will clean high traffic areas/materials on a daily basis.

What happens if a child, parent, or staff member is diagnosed with COVID-19?
If there is a confirmed case of COVID-19, JCC East Bay and Cleveland Elementary leadership staff will follow the guidance from the local health departments that includes protocols for closing, investigating, cleaning, and reopening.

If a student or teacher becomes sick, what is the plan of action and will the program be cancelled?
If there is a suspected case or exposure of COVID-19 onsite, the JCC East Bay and Cleveland Elementary has a comprehensive isolation protocol. At that time, the JCC will determine the scope of a facility deep-clean and/or a temporary shut down of the facility to allow for a cooling-off period.

How will groups be organized?
Each group is split up by age/grade with a 1:14 teacher to student ratio. Groups will have dedicated spaces both indoors and outdoors. Having friends in the same Kids' Club group depends entirely on the registration — we will do our best to accommodate, but cannot guarantee anything. Pods must remain stable for three weeks before any changes can be made.

What are your food and snack procedures?
Students will be provided with two snacks daily. Students need to bring water bottles to the program each day and additional snacks if necessary.

How often does my child go outside?
Students spend as much time outdoors as possible! We use indoor spaces minimally, and on rainy days.

How do you handle poor air quality?
The JCC East Bay has a comprehensive Air Quality decision-making matrix that we employ when the AQI reaches unhealthy levels. Generally speaking, for AQI levels between 51 and 150 (Moderate and Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups), we will take more breaks and do less intense activities outdoors, and also decide to move activities indoors. We will utilize HEPA filters when indoors to filter out air particles from the outdoors. At Unhealthy levels (AQI 151-200), we will assess the current levels and hourly projections to determine program closures. If we decide to keep the building and programs open within this level, we will keep everyone indoors and utilize HEPA filters. At Very Unhealthy levels and beyond (201+), we will close our building and suspend all of our programs. As air quality changes rapidly and is hard to predict, we will take building and program closures on a day-by-day basis. We are in constant communication with local school districts and will also consult with them on AQI if/when appropriate.

What is your refund/credit policy?
We've all had to learn how to be flexible! The JCC East Bay coordinates our offerings to complement school districts, schedules, air quality, and more. We begin the year with a certain schedule and options and recognize that circumstances can change. As such, we strive to notify you as soon as possible about changes in programs and associated payments. There may be situations where the JCC East Bay is unable to provide planned services due to natural disasters or public health concerns. In these situations, refunds for charges already made will not be provided—however, future charges will be suspended until services can resume.
