Program Overview

JCC East Bay Madrichimot (teen role models) is a hands-on leadership and education program designed for teens in grades 8-12. Serving as a Madrich or Madricha is a meaningful early job experience, giving middle and high school students the opportunity to build real skills in a supportive and values-driven environment.

Participants work as teacher’s assistants in our Edah Afterschool program, gaining direct classroom experience while receiving training in teaching, Jewish education and values, and leadership and mentorship.

Program Details

JCC East Bay Madrichimot is a part-time position for teens in grades 8-12. As a Madrich or Madricha, you’ll work as a teacher’s assistant in our Edah Afterschool program, supporting younger students in a fun and engaging Jewish learning environment. It’s a few hours a week so it is flexible enough to fit around school, sports, and everything else in your life.

As a Madrich or Madricha, you’ll work side by side with experienced educators, helping lead activities, support students, and bring Jewish values to life in the classroom. Along the way you’ll receive real training in teaching and classroom skills, Jewish education and values, and leadership and mentorship. These skills will serve you well no matter where life takes you.

Application Process

The first step to joining JCC East Bay Madrichimot is to complete our application form here.

The form asks about your experience working with children, your interests and reasons for pursuing the program, and your short- and long-term professional and educational goals. You will also be asked to provide basic contact information.

We recommend consulting with your parents or guardian as you complete your application to ensure they are fully aware of the requirements, schedule, and expectations of the program before moving on to the interview stage.

Schedule

All Madrichimot are expected to come to trainings on the following dates:

  • August 2, 2026
  • October 4, 2026
  • December 13, 2026
  • January 31, 2027
  • April 11, 2027

They will also be expected to work a minimum of 2 events throughout the year.

FAQs

How many days a week will I be working?
Our Madrichimot work 1-3 days a week, Monday through Thursday. Sometimes there is an extra day of work on a Sunday.

What is a stipend?
Our 8th and 9th grade Madrichimot are at the JCC East Bay on a volunteer basis. They earn a stipend for their time instead of a paycheck:

  • 8th graders earn $700
  • 9th graders earn $1,900

How much do JCC East Bay Madrichimot get paid?
Our 10th, 11th, and 12th graders get paid $19.61 an hour.
