Older Adults Programs

The JCC East Bay is excited to carefully transition back to a select number of in-person programs for our older adult community.

More than anything, we are looking to understand how to best meet the needs of our older adult community as we start to bring back in-person programming.

Nosh With Your Neighbors

Join us on the third Thursday of each month at the JCC East Bay to enjoy lunch with your community! This is a BYOL (bring-your-own-lunch) with delicious dessert, coffee, and tea provided.

Weekly Groups

Intermediate Mah Jongg
Mondays
1 – 4pm

This group is for newer players or those wanting to practice playing in community. Join for good company and a delightful game of Mah Jongg!

Advanced Mah Jongg
Wednesdays

10am – 1pm

This group is for experienced players or those wanting to sharpen their competitive edge. Join for tea and fierce games of Mah Jongg.

Yiddish Conversation
Wednesdays
10:30 – 11:30am

Participants will take turns reading various Yiddish passages aloud. Keep the art of the Yiddish language alive through laughter and connection.

  • Wednesdays:
    • Advanced Mah Jongg meets from 10am-1pm at the JCC

We’re excited to open up our library and courtyard space for older adults to come together on the third Thursday of every month from 11:30am-1pm. Bring your own Kosher-style lunch and gather with the community. Dessert will be provided.

On January 25, join the JCC East Bay and Jewish Film Institute for an Older Adults Film Screening! JFI will be visiting the JCC East Bay to screen PERIPHERY – a Canadian documentary that bears witness to ethnic diversity in the Jewish community.

On February 29, join the JCC East Bay for our very first Intergenerational Connections event: Challah Braid with Berkeley Hillel! 

Berkeley Hillel has invited JCC East Bay’s Older Adults to join Hillel students for a sit-down dinner and to braid Challah together for Challah for Hunger! Berkeley Hillel students will lead us in the mitzvah of braiding and baking Challah.
