In lieu of traditional Yom Kippur services this year, we are thrilled to be launching a brand new offering – The Art of Forgiveness: a Yom Kippur Immersive Studio Experience. Gather with us to explore the theme of forgiveness in core Jewish Studio Project fashion – a deeply creative and personal experience through hands-on art-making, text exploration and song.
JCC East Bay is located at 1414 Walnut St, Berkeley, CA 94709 and has an ADA accessible entrance.
Rosh Hashanah Services and the Yom Kippur Immersive Studio Experience will take place both indoors and outdoors. Masking is encouraged, though not required.
As in years past, seating is first come, first served. Reserved seating is available to those with accessibility needs. Please reach out to JCC East Bay’s Director of Community Engagement, Sarah Wolfman-Robichaud at sarahwr@jcceastbay.org.
Those who would like more time to find and get comfortable in their seats may request an early arrival or other accommodation by emailing Candace Goodwin, Jewish Studio Project’s Senior Public Programs Manager at cgoodwin@jewishstudioproject.org.
The High Holidays are a beautiful and meaningful time for our community, and the JCC East Bay has been honored to host a multitude of experiences over the years.
Over the past several decades, the Berkeley Community High Holy Days Services grew from a grassroots community, into a powerful volunteer-led endeavor and more recently into a partnership with the JCC East Bay (JCC) and the Jewish Studio Project (JSP). During the last couple of years, volunteers have retired and JSP has shifted its High Holiday offerings to align more with its core mission of cultivating creativity. The JCC has also been committed to providing space in our large yard for Jewish Gateways – and welcoming as many community members as space allows – to celebrate the High Holidays.
As we continue to evolve and innovate new ways of supporting Jewish community engagement, the JCC’s offerings for the High Holidays will look different this year. Jewish Gateways will offer its annual music-filled, multi-generational, donation-based services inside the JCC theater and courtyard.
JSP will now offer a unique overnight creative arts retreat in Southern California for Yom Kippur.
The spirit of the High Holidays will remain alive, exciting, and accessible for everyone, as they have for so many years. A very special thank you to the pioneers of the Berkeley Community High Holy Days Services and to our colleagues at JSP.
We look forward to being in community with you in the near future.
